Former Super Eagles coach tells Premier League clubs to be wary after a recent transfer was completed.

Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh has sent out a warning, advising Premier League clubs to be wary of Aston Villa after the Birmingham-based club completed the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton. 

Villa beat rivals to Onana chase 

Amadou Onana has been one of the most coveted talents in the transfer window. His unique set of skills at defensive midfield is desired by a number of clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona.

However, it was the Villans who moved with the most intent, and they have now completed a deal for the Belgium international. Neither club provided specific details on the agreed amount, but according to ESPN, the deal was sealed for a fee in the region of £50 million.

Onana's signing comes after Villa lost midfield stalwart Douglas Luis to Serie A record-champion Juventus.

What Oliseh said

Aston Villa had a remarkable 2023/24 season, as they finished inside the top four. This meant they qualified for next season's Champions League, prompting their activity in the transfer window to strengthen their squad in preparation for Europe's elites. 

Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Oliseh is impressed with the acquisition of Onana and believes the Belgian could help propel Villa to even greater heights. 

“This transfer deal [Amadou Onana] has the potential to take Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to a totally different level. Be smart; don’t you dare bet against Villa this season,” Oliseh tweeted

The retired footballer regularly tweets about the current affairs in the sport on his X account. Most recently, he fawned over Luis de la Fuente's Spain's team and congratulated them on being European champions.
