Nigeria's Joe Aribo and Southampton celebrated a first win of the season against Everton at Saint Mary's.

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo played a key role in helping Southampton achieve their first home victory of the season, defeating Everton 1-0.

The win, marked by a late goal from Adam Armstrong, was a crucial boost for the Saints as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.

Aribo, who came on as a substitute at halftime for Adam Lallana, made an immediate impact with his energetic performance.

The Nigerian midfielder completed 89% of his passes and won all his aerial duels during his time on the pitch, showcasing his effectiveness in both attack and defense.

His presence helped stabilise Southampton's midfield as they sought to break Everton's resilient defense.

The match was tense, and Southampton dominated possession throughout. However, it was Everton who came closest to scoring in the second half when Beto hit the crossbar with a powerful strike.

Just moments later, Southampton launched a counterattack that resulted in Armstrong’s decisive goal. After receiving a cross from Yukinari Sugawara, Armstrong turned sharply and fired past Everton’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, sending the home fans into jubilation.

As the game drew to a close, Beto appeared to have equalised for Everton, but VAR intervened, ruling the goal offside. This decision was met with relief from Aribo and his teammates, who were determined to secure the much-needed three points.

Aribo's contributions were vital in maintaining Southampton's lead and ensuring their first league win of the season. Manager Russell Martin praised the team's resilience and emphasised the importance of this victory in their fight against relegation.

With this win, Southampton moves off the bottom of the Premier League table, providing a much-needed morale boost as they prepare for their next challenge.

Joe Aribo’s performance not only highlighted his skills but also solidified his importance to the team as they look to build on this success in upcoming matches.
