The Foxes' promotion hopes were bolstered by their win over West Brom thanks to a goal from Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi
Leicester City did their chances of promotion to the Premier League a world of good after beating West Brom 2-1 in the EFL Championship with goals from Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Foxes legend Jamie Vardy.
Ndidi opened the scoring midway through the first half before Vardy added a second for Leicester in the 66th minute. Despite a late surge from West Brom and a goal from Jed Wallace, Leicester held on for the win and a place at the top of the EFL Championship table.
How it happened
The match began with both sides eager to assert their dominance, but it was the visitors who seemed to settle into their rhythm quickly. West Brom piled on the pressure in the early stages, with Jed Wallace orchestrating a mesmerizing run that almost led to an opener for Michael Johnston, only to be thwarted heroically by Hamza Choudhury's goal-line clearance.
Against the run of play, Leicester City struck first blood as Jamie Vardy met Wout Faes's cross, forcing a save from Alex Palmer which fell kindly for Wilfred Ndidi to tap home from close range, giving the Foxes a vital lead 22 minutes into the game.
The first half ended dramatically as Okay Yokuşlu clumsily brought down Vardy in the box, presenting the veteran striker with an opportunity to extend Leicester's lead from the penalty spot. However, Vardy's low effort struck the post, leaving the scoreline at 1-0 heading into the break.
The second half saw West Brom pushing hard to claw their way back into the game, but Leicester's defense stood firm, with Choudhury making crucial goal-line clearances to deny the visitors. Despite the Baggies' relentless pressure, it was Leicester who struck again against the run of play, with Abdul Fatawu delivering a pinpoint cross for Vardy to powerfully head home his 15th league goal of the season.
Just when it seemed Leicester had sealed the win, West Brom pulled one back through Jed Wallace, setting up a tense finale. However, the Foxes held on to secure the victory, sending them two points clear at the top of the table.
The win not only ended Leicester's two-game losing streak but also reaffirmed their title ambitions while dealing a blow to West Brom's hopes of a top-six finish. With just three games remaining, Leicester City now stand on the brink of Championship glory.
