Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has replaced Semi Ajayi and Olisa Ndah with two defenders.

Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has made significant changes to his squad ahead of the crucial doubleheader against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

In a strategic move, Eguavoen has replaced defenders Semi Ajayi and Olisa Ndah, both sidelined by long-term injuries, with two fresh faces.

Eguavoen's squad features notable players such as captain William Ekong, Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, reigning Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, and 19 other players eager to secure six points in the final rounds of the qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles are currently at the top of Group D and need just one point against Benin to guarantee their place in the tournament.

Newly called-up home-based defender Victor Collins from Nasarawa United will join the team for the first time, while Gabriel Osho, who plays in France is also in.

The former Luton Town defender will hope to make his competitive debut after missing a previous call-up due to injury.

Their inclusion comes after Ajayi suffered a severe hamstring injury, which will keep him out for an extended period, and Ndah fractured his tibia during a recent match.

The Super Eagles will fly to Abidjan on November 11 for their match against the Cheetahs of Benin at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny on November 14, before heading to Uyo for their final qualifying game against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on November 18.

With a current tally of seven goals scored and none conceded—thanks in part to a CAF Disciplinary Board ruling awarding them three points from a previous match—the Super Eagles are in a strong position.

They will be looking to extend their unbeaten run under Eguavoen and secure their spot in AFCON 2025 with solid performances against both opponents.

Semi Ajayi will be out for four months.

As anticipation builds for these crucial fixtures, Eguavoen's reshuffled squad will be expected to deliver results that will seal Nigeria’s ticket to another AFCON campaign.
