Super Eagles set to know CHAN foes January 15th

Home-based Super Eagles will know its opponent for the CHAN group stage on January 15th

The Home-based Super Eagles will discover their group-stage opponents for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the draw ceremony on Wednesday, January 15th.

The event will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nigeria secured their qualification with a 3-1 aggregate victory over fierce rivals Ghana to mark the return to the CHAN tournament after a six-year absence.  

Preparations for the competition will begin with a training camp in Ikenne, Ogun state starting on Monday, with 26 players called up by stand-in head coach Daniel Ogunmodede.

The CHAN tournament, which features players competing in their respective domestic leagues, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.  

Ogunmodede calls up 26 players for Super Eagles B CHAN camp

Stand-in Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has named a 26-man squad for a closed camping exercise at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, beginning Monday, January 6th.

The camp is in preparation for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals.

Among the invited players are captain Nduka Harrison Junior, goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, defenders Sadiq Ismail and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, midfielder Saviour Isaac, and forward Sikiru Alimi.

Other players called up include goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, defenders Imo Obot and Stephen Manyo, midfielders Musa Zayyad, Rabiu Ali, and Papa Daniel Mustapha, and forwards Adamu Abubakar and Emmanuel Ogbole.

Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, which will jointly host the 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027, will use the CHAN finals (scheduled for February 1st–28th) as a test run for their facilities and operational capabilities.

The 8th African Nations Championship will feature 18 participating nations: joint-hosts Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, along with Nigeria, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Niger Republic, Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.
