The star forward is reportedly keen on a move to Turkey, but not with Mourinho's Fenerbahce
Giant Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has reportedly turned down a chance to work with Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce in order to seal a permanent move to Trabzonspor.
Onuachu spent last season on loan with Trabzonspor from Southampton and was a huge hit with the Turkish side, leading to speculation of a permanent transfer.
Onuachu impresses on loan with Trabzonspor
The 6ft 7in striker was in sensational form for Trabzsonspor during his latest loan spell with the club in the 2023/24 season.
Onuachu scored 15 league goals in only 21 appearances, helping Trabzonpsor to third place in the Turkish Super Lig and sealing European qualification for next season.
The Nigerian striker scored 17 goals and provided four assists in all competitions for the Turkish side, making him Trabzonspor’s overall top scorer for the season, and their number one transfer target for the summer window.
Onuachu prefers Tranbzonspor move to Fenerbahce
Following his stellar season in Turkey, Onuachu has become the target of multiple clubs, with Trabzonspor facing a battle to keep the Super Eagles star.
Onuachu has already stated his intention not to return to Southampton, but is also reportedly on the radar of Turkish Super Lig runners-up Fenerbahce, who recently appointed legendary football manager Jose Mourinho as head coach.
Despite the chance to work with one of football’s foremost figures at Fenerbahce, Onuachu is reportedly only interested in playing for Trabzonspor and was quoted by Turkish sources as saying, “I only play in Trabzonspor in Turkey. I am very happy there.”
Onuachu is likely to return to Trabzospor this summer, but Southampton’s €10 million price tag for the Nigerian could be a stumbling block.
