Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala is set to become the first person to receive the FIFA new award called the ‘Marta Award’.
The 'Marta Award,' named for the renowned Brazilian football player, was created by FIFA to honour the finest goal in women's football.
The award represents the female Puskás category, which is specifically for the best goal in women’s football.
The award honours the most outstanding goals between August 21, 2023, and August 10, 2024 and will be presented in January 2025.

Ajibade, the Atletico Madrid forward, is nominated for Women's Player of the Year, while Nnadozie, the Paris FC goalkeeper, is up for Women's Goalkeeper of the Year.

The current African Footballer of the Year is a nominee for the new Marta award following her goal for Barcelona against Benfica in their Champions League match on November 14, 2023.
The Super Falcons striker is vying for the prize, which will be given out for the first time at The Best Fifa Football Awards 2024 in January 2025, after being nominated among ten other players.
The list from FIFA.com includes 11 players: Delphine Cascarino, Marina Hegering, Sakina Karchaoui, Paulina Krumbiegel, Marta, Nina Matejic, Giuseppina Moraca, Mayra Pelayo, Beth Mead, Trinity Rodman and Assisat Oshoala.
Oshoala scored a stunning goal just forty seconds after replacing Mariona Caldentey on the bench in the 60th minute.
The Nigerian star launched herself into the air and gave a defenceless Lena Pauels a bicycle kick of the greatest kind.
Meanwhile, Paul Onuachu is also a candidate for the Fifa Puskás Award, which is only given to men's football players.
