The Rayon Sports shot-stopper has, on several occasions, expressed his deep love for his mother, notably last season when he was pictured humbly handing over his man-of-the-match accolades to the mother.

The phrase 'behind every successful athlete is a mother lifting a child to reach his dreams' perfectly explains custodian Simon Tamale and his dear mother, Stephania Nalwadda.

The Rayon Sports shot-stopper has, on several occasions, expressed his deep love for his mother, notably last season when he was pictured humbly handing over his man-of-the-match accolades to the mother.

"My mother has been a major pillar in my career; from day one, she always encouraged and advised me to keep going," Tamale told Pulse Sports on the side-lines of the Pilsner Awards gala.

It wasn't all smooth at the start; according to Stephania Nalwadda, her son, from a young age, loved the hollow spherical object and always returned home dirty.

The routine earned the goalkeeper of the season a lot of scolding until the mother had a chat with one of his coaches.

"At first, when he was young, I didn't entertain him (Tamale) playing football, but he really loved it; he earned some scolding from me each time he returned home very dirty," Nalwadda noted.

"However, one of his coaches came and requested that I let him play; he explained that he saw something different in him."

"So I decided to support him, and look where we are today; God is great. I wish him the best in Rwanda; I know he will also perform well," she added.

The 28-year-old was on hand to call out other parents to continually support their kids in any talent; I urge all parents to support their kids and their talents; it's a good thing.

"It goes a long way in nurturing the future talents and motivating the kids."

Tamale also walked away with the Best XI goalkeeper; the gongs came with a brand new 32-inch television set and a StarTimes dish which he gifted his mother as a sign of appreciation.
