The Tanzanian giant lost 2-1 to the Algerians inflicting a double loss following the stampede that left several fans injured.

Tanzania Football Federation has confirmed the death of a fan after a stampede that happened before Yanga's 2-1 loss to USM Algers in the CAF Confederations Cup final on Sunday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam.

The Tanzanian giant lost 2-1 to the Algerians inflicting a double loss following the stampede that left several fans injured.

“President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Wallace Karia has received with regret the news of the death of a fan and several others that were injured outside Benjamin Mkapa's stadium yesterday before the final game of the African Confederation Cup between Young Africans and USMA of Algeria,” TFF confirmed in a communication to the press.

“President Karia on behalf of TFF has apologized to the family of the deceased for the tragedy. He has also apologized to the other injured who have been admitted to Temeke Hospital and wished them to recover early so that they can return to their daily duties,” the message adds.

It was reported that the fracas could have been caused as the management took more time to verify genuine tickets.
