The Tanzania Premier League is continuing to grow at an astonishing rate both on the pitch and off it.
On Friday, the Tanzania Football Federation and the Tanzania Premier League Board unveiled a new five-year sponsorship from the National Bank of Commerce.
The title sponsorship is worth Tshs32.6 billion (approx shs47.2 billion) for the next five seasons until 2027/28.

“Because of the league’s success, TFF is happy to confirm that we’ve reached an agreement to extend the [NBC] sponsorship by another five years,” Wallace Karia, the president of Tanzania Football Federation, said on Friday during the unveiling in Tanga.
Under the new deal, a huge chunk of the money will go to the top flight while the second and third divisions and youth football will also be catered for.

The sponsorship is an addition to the Azam TV broadcasting deal that is worth Tshs225.6 billion (approx. Shs326.5 billion) for ten years since the 2021/22 season.

Gift Fred crossed over to Yanga in July on a free transfer after seeing off his contract with the SC Villa.
Under this deal, the Tanzania Premier League clubs get 67% of the money, which translates to Shs. 11.6 billion per season.
Each club gets about shs723.7 million as sponsorship for the season.
With the current deal, each TPL club is expected to get in excess of shs1.1 billion as sponsorship per season.
On the pitch, the Tanzanian league is currently ranked 6th by CAF behind Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, South Africa and Tunisia.
The country is allowed to field two clubs each in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.
Last season, their league champions Young Africans, reached the final of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.
