The USA team are a young talented squad carrying the expectations of the Nation on their shoulders
The USA failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup but have found their way back to the global stage.
Over the past year, they have seen some success by winning the Gold Cup and Nations League but their main aim was always qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
Road to Qatar
The USA finished third in the eight-team round-robin, behind Canada and Mexico. They finished ahead of Costa Rica which was just enough to avoid an inter-confederation play-off and go straight to Qatar
Taking four points from Mexico was a big deal and could mean even more in the grand scheme of things. Fans are more excited about this World cup than recent competitions. This auanited States squad is considered one of their most talented player pools ever.
Recent World Cup performances
The USA failed to qualify for the FIFA 2018 World Cup after a shocking 2-1 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in the last game of qualifying. That was the first time they had missed out on the tournament since 1986
Before then the US team got to the second round of the 2014 World Cup where they got knocked out after losing to Belgium.

Star Player
Christian Pulisic
There will be huge responsibility on the shoulders of Christian Pulisic especially because the US do not have a recognized striker.
At 24 the Chelsea forward is not the same fearless, rampaging kid who emerged during the failed 2018 qualifying campaign. For his country he now tends to drop into midfield in search of the ball. That’s the weight of expectation (and injuries) for you. There’s even a car advert in which he reclines on a therapist’s couch and runs into a wardrobe to escape the media.
The Coach
Gregg Berhalter was appointed in December 2018 after spells in charge of Swedish club Hammarby and MLS side Columbus Crew.
Several fans had hoped for a coach with a more distinguished pedigree and many are still unsure about him. The 49-year-old has won 36 and lost only 10 of his 56 games in charge.
