Emotional scenes were witnessed in Accra as Ghanaians organised a funeral for Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton who was laid to rest in Manchester on Monday
As the football fraternity gathered in Manchester for the funeral service of Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, a similar ceremony was being held thousands of miles away in Accra, Ghana.
Prince William and legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson led mourners at Sir Bobby's funeral service as prominent figures from the world of football and beyond paid tribute to one of England's greatest-ever players.
Family, friends, fans and famous players past and present celebrated Charlton's extraordinary life on Monday afternoon with his funeral cortege passing by Old Trafford before heading on to Manchester Cathedral for a memorial service.
In Ghana, a group, which calls itself the Nationwide Supporters Union, held final funeral rites for Sir Bobby in Tesano, a sub-hub of the country’s capital Accra.
The setting was decorated in red and black colours with Sir Bobby’s portrait, which had the 1966 world champion holding the World Cup, displayed on the wall.
Those in attendance were dressed in red and could be seen wiping tears as they celebrated the football great with traditional songs on his final journey.
In Manchester, a host of former United players were among thousands in attendance, with Paddy Crerand, Alex Stepney, Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel and Andrew Cole among those at the service.
Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton represented the current United squad. Former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also present.
