PREMIER LEAGUE: Ten Hag makes tough training ground change to turn around results

After a slow start to their league season, Erik Ten hag has introduced a rule on the club’s training ground that could launch a path towards making the squad achieve more sustainable performances.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has continued to stamp his authority on things at the club after imposing a rule that must be adhered to by all players in training.

United are maximizing their recently-refurbished canteen and new head chef Omar Meziane as part of manager Erik ten Hag's nutritional drive.

Ten Hag identified nutrition as one of the three key areas United were flagging in when he took over in May 2022 and Meziane was hired from the Football Association earlier this year.

As part of his efforts to help the playing staff improve in this aspect, Ten Hag has prohibited players from leaving the training ground before 2 PM.

The players will be required to have lunch at the club before leaving, which will help monitor the players’ nutritional progression easier.

Many would often dine in restaurants in nearby Hale or Alderley Edge but restaurateurs in Cheshire's 'Golden Triangle' have complained at the sudden absence of United players in the villages during daytime.

Ed Leng was promoted to the head of physical performance in March after spending nearly four years as United's lead sports scientist and United made modifications to their nutritional analysis at the start of their pre-season tour of the United States in July.

Players started to wear continuous blood glucose monitors to study their individual nutrition strategy on matchday, as well as sweat patches to analyze their hydration levels.

United staff have backed Ten Hag unequivocally with a "football-first" strategy which has involved changing the home dugout at Old Trafford, the restoration of the players' lounge at the stadium, a tiered briefing room at Carrington and additional developments at the training ground.
