Terem Moffi and Nice will go up against PSG this weekend in Ligue 1 knowing it is a great chance get three points off them
Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi is no stranger to duels against the might of Paris Saint-Germain after facing them five times already, but in Ligue 1 Gameweek 30, he will be presented with a chance to confront Les Parisiens at their weakest.
Moffi vs PSG in Ligue 1
Moffi has played the Paris giants on five occasions, and despite scoring three goals in that time, he has been on the losing end more times (3) than he has won (1).
The last of his goals against PSG came in Lorient’s 2-1 loss to Les Parisiens.
Moffi managed to score for his former side, but goals from Neymar and Danilo Perreira gave the league leaders the win.
Since that meeting, Moffi’s and PSG’s fortunes have turned dramatically ahead of their second clash of the season, and the change means that Moffi has the chance to get a rare win over the league leaders.
When Moffi met PSG earlier this season, Les Parisiens were unbeaten in the league, having started the season with a record of 11 wins and two draws in their opening 13 matches.
Moffi and Lorient, on the other hand, were in the middle of a run that saw them win only twice in 10 games, with the loss to PSG being one of four in that run.
Ahead of the second meeting between Moffi and PSG, it is the Nigerian forward who has an unbeaten run to protect having never tasted defeat in Ligue 1 as a Nice player since his January move from Lorient.
Meanwhile, PSG’s early season form turned out to be a flash in the pan. Ahead of the game against Nice, the Paris-based club are looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat in Ligue 1, after also crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and the Coupe de France which they were among the favourites to win.
PSG are a club in crisis, with on and off-pitch problems plaguing them even though they are currently hanging on to the top spot in Ligue 1.
From looking untouchable in the league at least, PSG now find themselves with only a six point cushion between themselves and third-place Marseille after succumbing to more defeats in the first quarter of 2023 than they did in all of 2022.
A loss against Nice could reduce their lead at the top even further, and would certainly put a title parade at the end of the season in jeopardy.
Key Players in Nice vs PSG
As has often been the case this season, PSG will look to star forward Kylian Mbappe to put on a show in attack for them.
Even though they might not be able to reproduce his image and likeness for their purposes without permission from him, they can at least hope that on the pitch he will deliver the goods against Nice.
Nice will be looking to January signing Moffi to get them the win against PSG, thereby securing a famous league double against the oil-rich log leaders.
Moffi’s record of three goals in five games against PSG is his third best against French teams, and with the state of the club, there’s no doubt that he will be itching to improve that record and add to the five goals in nine games he has amassed since joining Nice in January.
Friday in Ligue 1
Ligue 1 kicks off on Friday with second-place Lens looking to cut PSG’s lead at the top when they take on bottom feeders Strasbourg.
Saturday in Ligue 1
In addition to PSG’s crucial fixture against Nice, Saturday in Ligue 1 will see bottom club Angers host European hopefuls Lille.
Sunday in Ligue 1
On Sunday in Ligue 1, Lyon fresh off a win against PSG will take on Rennes in the early kick-off.
Relegation strugglers Ajaccio and Auxerre do battle, while Montpellier host Toulouse, and Folarin Balogun and Reims take on Brest.
Troyes host Clermont Foot hoping to keep their Ligue 1 survival hopes alive, while Moses Simon’s Nantes hope to stem their recent poor form as they host Monaco.
In the final game of the weekend, Marseille will be hoping that by the time they take on Lorient, the gap at the top will still be six points so they can reduce it further.
