Nigeria's Super Eagles are through to the AFCON2025 all thanks to Libya.

Nigeria's Super Eagles have officially qualified for their 21st Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and they have Libya to thank for it.

The team's qualification was secured without even kicking a ball, following Libya's surprise away victory over Rwanda in a Group D match.

This win effectively confirmed Nigeria's position in the top two spots of the group, allowing them to book their ticket to Morocco next year.

The Super Eagles' path to qualification was significantly aided by a controversial situation involving Libya.

Nigeria was awarded all three points from their scheduled match against Libya after their round four game was suspended due to a 20-hour hostage situation at a Libyan airport.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) sanctioned Libya for this incident, which involved Nigerian players being stranded without food or water, and subsequently declared the match a forfeit in favour of Nigeria with a scoreline of 3-0.

As a result of Libya's win, Nigeria remains comfortably at the top of Group D with 10 points from four matches, four points ahead of second-placed Benin Republic, with Rwanda third on five points with just a match left.

With only two matches remaining in the qualifiers, Nigeria's place in the tournament is secure regardless of the outcomes in those games.

The Super Eagles are set to compete in AFCON 2025, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Their qualification marks another significant achievement for Nigerian football as they aim to reclaim their status among Africa's elite teams on the continental stage.
