The CAF Award has produced numerous winners since its inception, with Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman being crowned the 2024 African Best Player of the Year.
Lookman's excellent performance last season and an exceptional display in the UEFA Europa League final earned him a huge reputation in Africa.
The winger helped his club side Atalanta win their first European trophy and also made history by being the first player to score a European hat trick in a final.
Following Lookman being named the winner of the 2024 CAF Award, we take a look at the countries with the most POTY Award.

List of countries with the most CAF POTY Awards
Nigeria became the second team with the highest number of players with the CAF Player of the Year Award (7), behind Cameroon, who is ranked with the highest (11).
According to the CAF official website, we have made a list of the countries with the most POTY Award winners since the start of the ceremony.
8. Mali - 1
The first winner of the CAF award was former Mali international Salif Keita, who received it in 1970 while playing for Saint-Étienne in France.
In 2007, Frédéric Kanouté became the second player from Mali to win the CAF Player of the Year award.
7. Liberia - 3
In 1995, former Liberia forward George Weah claimed his first CAF POTY Award while playing for AC Milan in Italy.
He went on to win two more CAF awards during his prime, taking his tally to three in the list of past winners.
6. Algeria and Egypt - 3
Egypt and Algeria have also produced three past winners of the CAF Player of the Year Award. Mahmoud El Khatib was the first Egyptian player to win the award in 1983 before Mohamed Salah claimed two more in 2017 and 2018.
Rabah Madjer and Lakhdar Belloumi from Algeria won the award in 1987 and 1981 before Riyad Mahrez in 2016.
5. Morocco and Senegal - 4
Morocco has produced four different winners, with Mustapha Hadji the last player to win the award in 1998.
Senegal also has four winners, with El Hadji Diouf winning it twice in 2001 and 2002 before Sadio Mane later won in 2019 and 2022.
4. Ghana - 5
Ghana has a total of five winners of the award, with Abedi Pele winning three of the five CAF POTY awards. He won one of the awards in 1992 while playing for French side Marseille.
3. Cote d’Ivoire - 6
Ivory Coast has produced six winners of the CAF Award. Didier Drogba became the first Ivorian to win the award in 2006 before winning another in 2009.
His fellow countryman, Yaya Toure, went on to win four consecutive CAF Player of the Year awards in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 to make it six.
2. Nigeria - 7
Nigeria has won seven CAF POTY awards, with six different Super Eagles players. Rashidi Yekini became the first Nigerian player to win the award in 1993, before Emmanuel Amunike in 1994.
Nwankwo Kanu became the third player to win it in 1996 and 1999, then Victor Ikpeba in 1997. Nigeria had to wait until 2023 to get another taste of the award, when Victor Osimhen was named the best player in Africa and in 2024 Ademola Lookman became the seventh Nigerian to get the award.
1. Cameroon - 11
The country with the most CAF African Player of the Year award is Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions have 11 players on the list, with Roger Milla being the first player to win it in 1976 and 1990.
Then in 2000 Patrick Mboma also won the award before Samuel Etoo swooped four of the awards in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010.
