A resurgent Kylian Mbappe has been in fine form for Real Madrid, scoring goals and providing assists, but the Frenchman has revealed when everything changed.

Kylian Mbappe has promised Madrid fans that he will improve his performance. He added that a penalty miss earlier this month, in Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Athletic Club on December 4th, was a turning point in his recent form.

Mbappe's missed penalty while Real Madrid trailed 1-0 in Bilbao intensified criticism surrounding the star forward's performances.

However, the Frenchman has recently shown signs of improvement, scoring against Sevilla and providing an assist in Real Madrid's 4-2 La Liga victory on Sunday.

Mbappe also grabbed the opening goal against Pachuca in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar, winning his second trophy with the club.

What Mbappe said

Reflecting on his performances, Mbappe stated that he can do more and that he has more in his legs.

"I can do a lot more. I know that I have a lot more in my legs. In the last few games I've played better. The game in Bilbao was good for me. I hit rock-bottom; I missed a penalty. It was the moment to realise that I have to give my all for this shirt and play with more personality," he said via Euro Sport.

He continued, "We've improved in recent months. It was a difficult game, we were a bit tired after the trip to Qatar. But we did well, from the start, scoring good goals, playing on the front foot. I think Madrid fans will be happy today.

"I think we've gotten to know each other better. I came into the team and that changes a lot of things, but now, as [manager, Carlo Ancelotti] has said, my adaptation has finished and I feel good. We can see on the pitch that I understand my team-mates better, and the whole team is playing better," he added.

The missed penalty against Athletic Club compounded previous penalty woes for Mbappe, including a miss against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League and his decision to decline a penalty opportunity against Getafe.

However, since the Bilbao defeat, Mbappe has found his scoring boots, netting six goals in December.
