Why the transfer window has not closed
In May 2024, the Premier League released a statement announcing a three-day extension for the 2025 winter transfer window.
The announcement came after holding a meeting with relevant leagues like LALIGA, Serie A and the EFL. The purpose, they explained, is the harmonise the European transfer market.
"The winter window will open on Wednesday, 1 January 2025 and will close at 23:00 GMT on Monday, 3 February 2025. To ensure harmonisation with the major leagues in Europe, the closing dates were set following discussions with the EFL, DFL, Serie A, La Liga, and LFP, who will all close their summer and winter windows on 30 August and 3 February, respectively.”
Many Premier League clubs are still looking to get deals over the line ahead of deadline day, with Arsenal searching for a striker, Manchester City courting Porto’s Nico Gonzalez, and Aston Villa eyeing Chelsea's Joao Felix, among others.
