Real Betis chief opens up on their desire to keep Antony beyond his loan deal.

Real Betis have expressed interest in signing Antony permanently from Manchester United despite not working a buy option into his loan deal.

The 22-year-old joined the Heliopolitans on a six-month loan during the winter transfer window, after two-and-a-half years at Manchester United in which he failed to justify his €100 million price tag.

He fell down the pecking order at the club and, as such, was placed on the loan market in January in a bid to improve his market value and recoup the maximum amount possible for him.

Betis impressed with Antony

The Spanish side secured the dry loan for the Brazil international before deadline day. According to reports, a penalty clause was worked in by Manchester United to ensure he gets ample play time at the club.

Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón confirmed they have been sending regular reports to the Red Devils to show they have been fulfilling their end of the bargain. However, he suggested they were interested in making the loan deal permanent.

He said that Antony has settled well at the club and that they were willing to discuss a permanent transfer with Manchester United.

“Why not keeping Antony here next season? It’s a possibility,” Alarcon said, per Fabrizio. “We sent Man United all the moves and details of the player throughout the week so that they can see that we are looking after their asset. There is very good chemistry.”

The former Ajax man has shown glimpses of the immense talent that earned him such a mammoth transfer fee to Manchester United in his first two matches under Manuel Pellegrini’s tutelage.

His deflected shot was scored by Isco in his debut, and he found the back of the net himself in his second match. In both games, he was named Man of the Match by LALIGA TV’s viewers.
