Nigerian icon John Obi Mikel runs the rule on the biggest club in the world during a recent visit to Spain with his podcast crew.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has stirred up debate in the football world with his recent comments about Real Madrid.

Speaking on his podcast, the Nigerian international boldly declared the Spanish giants as "the biggest club in the world," even placing them above his former club Chelsea.

Mikel Obi’s Verdict Real Madrid

During the podcast episode, which was co-hosted by Chris McHardy, Mikel stated, "We are in Madrid, Spain, the home of Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world. I think so (that they are the biggest)."

When prompted by McHardy to elaborate by referencing his former club Chelsea, Mikel doubled down on his assertion, challenging listeners to consider alternatives.

"Tell me who else is the biggest? They've won way more than Chelsea," he argued, drawing a direct comparison to his former Premier League club.

The former Nigerian international considering going into management, who spent over a decade at Chelsea and was part of their 2012 Champions League-winning squad, didn't hesitate to place Real Madrid on a pedestal above his old team.

Mikel's comments highlight Real Madrid's unprecedented success in European football, particularly in the Champions League, where they have claimed a record 15 titles after seeing off Borussia Dortmund recently.

This trophy haul significantly outstrips Chelsea's two Champions League victories.

In a statement that may surprise some fans, especially those of his former club, Mikel added, "If you're someone who is honest and truthful, they are the biggest team in the world."

This remark suggests that Mikel believes recognising Real Madrid's superiority is a matter of objectivity rather than personal preference.

These comments are likely to spark discussions among football fans worldwide, particularly given Mikel's strong ties to Chelsea.

The debate over which club can claim the title of "world's biggest" is a perennial one in football circles, often considering factors such as historical success, global fan base, and financial clout.

Mikel's perspective, coming from a player who has experienced top-level football in both England and internationally, adds an interesting dimension to this ongoing debate.

It also reflects the enduring prestige of Real Madrid in the eyes of players, even those with strong connections to other elite European clubs.
