Barcelona and Spain’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has been one of the most exciting young talents in world football since making his breakthrough at just 16 years old. His extraordinary performances have drawn comparisons to Lionel Messi, but one of his teammates has dismissed such talk.
On an individual level, Yamal has already won both the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award. He has also enjoyed success with Spain, playing a crucial role in their European Championship triumph last year.
Like Messi, Yamal is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. Both players share similarities in their style of play—left-footed, operating from the right flank, and possessing outstanding creativity through dribbling and passing.
Given his rapid rise and achievements at such a young age, some believe Yamal might be even ahead of Messi at the same stage of his career. However, not everyone agrees—especially Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong: "Don’t compare him to Messi"
)
The Dutch midfielder acknowledged Yamal’s remarkable talent but insisted that no one should be compared to Messi.
"What he is doing at this age is exceptional and very rare. He is a natural talent," De Jong told reporters during the international break. "The way he understands the game and the decisions he makes at such a young age are truly impressive. I believe this ability is completely innate, and thankfully, he has it."
However, he was clear that Yamal is not on Messi’s level.
"I don’t think you should compare him with Messi because any player you compare to Messi will still fall short," De Jong stated. "I don’t think there will ever be another Messi."
Yamal will be looking to lead Barcelona to La Liga and Champions League glory this season. Many believe that if he succeeds, he will be in a strong position to compete for the Ballon d’Or this year.
