Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has stated that he sees no reason to compete with the rising sensation for a starting spot in the national team.

Nwabali got huge recognition during the 2023 AFCON tournament, despite it being his debut international competition.

Jose Peseiro, the former coach of the Super Eagles, called him up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to Francis Uzoho's frequent mistakes, which repeatedly cost the team.

The former Enugu Rangers player seized the chance to emerge as one of Nigeria's top players during the competition, keeping four clean sheets and saving two penalties.

The Chippa United goalkeeper has since cemented his place as the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper.

The Udinese star enjoyed an impressive season, keeping five clean sheets in 21 appearances for the Italian side.

The 24-year-old was called up to Finidi George's team for the June 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin because of his recent performances.

Okoye's return has raised questions about Nwabali's position on the team. Coach Finidi might be tempted to start him now that he appears to be back to his best.

However, Nwabali is not concerned about losing his top spot. Instead, he is solely concerned with the team's advancement.

According to Lagos Talks, Nwabali said, “There’s no debate. If Maduka can give what he’s giving Udinese to the country, then he should play.

“It’s not like a club side, where you see a new signing and you talk about fighting, No. This is the country we are playing for, we are representing this green, white green, and we want to see everyone happy.”

Nwabali claimed that he is not worried about the goalkeeping position in the team ahead of the Super Eagles clash with South Africa.
