Former Ghanian star Asamoah Gyan has slammed his ex-teammates for pointing fingers at him after he missed a winning penalty against Uruguay in 2010.

Ghana defied all odds at the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa by reaching the quarterfinal of the competition.

However, the Black Stars lost in a penalty shootout to Uruguay despite getting a chance to reach the semi-final.

Gyan, who captained the team to the World Cup, was given a chance from the penalty spot to win the game for Ghana after Luis Suarez handled the ball in the box to a goalscoring opportunity but instead blasted the ball over the bar.

According to ESPN Africa on X, Gyan said, “When the penalty miss happened, I was getting abused and called names because others said I should have left it for others.

“Why didn't the others step forward to take it? They were afraid. Cowards. I will say it. They are cowards.”

The Ghanian legend has received criticism from fans, pundits and his former teammates since the 2010 penalty miss.
