Nigeria has been drawn in Group D with Sudan, Congo, and reigning champions Senegal.

Nigeria international goalkeeper John Noble believes the Super Eagles are favourites to win the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for the first time, despite being drawn into a challenging group.

Earlier, Pulse Sports reported that Nigeria was drawn Group D with the likes of Sudan, Congo, and reigning champions Senegal.

The Super Eagles B return to the competition after missing the previous two editions, and will be hoping to make a resounding statement at the continental showpiece.

What Noble said

Noble, who plays his club football in Tanzania, acknowledges the difficulty of the group but expresses confidence in the Super Eagles' ability to overcome the challenge.

He dismissed any concerns about facing defending champions Senegal.

"The group is tough, as expected, because every team worked really hard to qualify. And to be the best team in Africa, you have to face the best teams," Noble told Flashscore.

He continued, "Our Super Eagles must be prepared for every game, and I truly believe they can handle the challenge. Senegal may be the defending champions, but that’s history now. The results won’t be decided by on the pages of newspapers, but by what happens on the field within 90 minutes."

The goalkeeper believes Senegal should be more concerned about facing Nigeria.

"So, I don’t see any reason to panic about being in the same group with them. Honestly, I think they are worried about playing Nigeria because of our strong football reputation and what we’re capable of achieving," he asserted.

Nigeria’s opponents Congo have reached the CHAN quarter-finals twice (in 2018 and 2020), and Sudan have finished third twice, but Noble is convinced Nigeria can win the tournament.
