The current Super Eagles squad is full of talented players like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, but they are still not good enough to play for past Nigerian players.
Former Nigeria star Victor Ikpeba has claimed that the current Super Eagles players are not as good as the players that represented the country in the 80s and 90s.

Victor Ikpeba calls Super Eagles' AFCON draw 'fair'
Ikpeba expressed confidence in the Super Eagles' ability to progress from the group stage.
Ikpeba, who made his debut for Nigeria in 1992 before going on to make 31 appearances for the country, revealed that there were more quality players in his era because they chose passion before money.
The man nicknamed “Prince of Monaco”, having played for Monaco, revealed this on the home turf podcast.
“In my era, you have to know how to play football. In my era, not everyone was allowed to play football, so even if you want to play football, you have to have the talent, the passion, the quality to play football,” Ikpeba said.
The former Borussia Dortmund star then went further to say that the Nigerian league during his time was competitive and had good players, who made the Super Eagles squad just because of their talent.

“Now, most parents want to allow their children to play football because there is money. In those days, people were playing not just for the money but because of the passion and talent,” Ikpeba continued.
“I go back memory lane, the leagues we had in the 80s, 90s, very very competitive leagues in Nigeria and the players were playing in the club sides, they were good players.
“For you to be selected to be part of the Green Eagles or the Super Eagles, it shows that you are exceptional.
Ikepba says 90s Super Eagles have more quality than the current one
The 1997 African player of the year insists his team had more quality and talent compared to the team representing the country now.
Having played for Nigeria’s golden generation that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, reached the second round of the 1994 FIFA World Cup on their debut and won the Men’s gold in the soccer event at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, Ikpeba believes his Super Eagles team had more talent at their disposal than the current one.

Shut up - Victor Ikpeba blasts Super Eagles legends over Eric Chelle's criticism
Ex-Nigerian international Ikpeba wants his former colleague to support Eric Chelle to succeed as Super Eagles coach.
“I think quality-wise and talent, I think we have it more than this era. I don’t think some of these guys can play in my era, that’s the truth,” Ikpeba added.
Despite his comments, Ikpeba did not really make a major impact with the Super Eagles as he only scored seven goals in 31 appearances for the country.
