Nigeria’s football legend has warned Ahmed Musa not to take risks in trying to get back into the Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Musa has not been called up to the Nigeria national team for a long time, with his last attendance coming in the 2023 AFCON tournament.
Despite being the team captain, the 31-year-old was not involved in any of Nigeria's games during the most recent AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Super Eagles forward has seen his status with the national side decline recently, despite being the most capped player in Nigerian history and the leading scorer at the World Cup.

Let's go again - 31-year-old Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa set for NPFL return, asks Nigerians to pick the club
Super Eagles icon Ahmed Musa is on the verge of making a sensational return to the NPFL but wants Nigerians to help him decide which club.
Odegbami warns Musa
Segun Odegbami has advice for Musa, claiming he should not take unnecessary steps to try to find his way back to the national team.
According to Complete Sports, Odegbami said, “I also wore the number 7 jersey and share some traits with Ahmed Musa.
“Like me, he scored many goals from the wings, including four during two World Cups—the highest by a Nigerian in World Cup history.
“He is the most capped player in Nigeria’s history, holder of two national honours (MON, and OON), professional player in Europe, Russia, and the Middle East.”
Musa has made a bold move by joining Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), a team he temporarily rejoined in 2021 before relocating to Turkey.
Odegbami claims that Musa made this choice as part of his strategy to keep up his shape and fitness in the hopes of being called up to the Super Eagles for AFCON 2025.
Odegbami continued, “It is in the news now that, 6 months after departing the national team and not securing a contract to play for any team abroad, he will be rejoining his former team, Kano Pillars FC, this season and intends to leverage on that ‘project’ and play his way back to the Super Eagles for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
“He is taking a big risk. Most before him did not take that path. Few players in Nigeria’s football history have returned to the NPFL to end their careers, and probably none succeeded in leaving a mark. This is also wishing him the very best of luck in this ambitious new adventure.”
Musa, a member of the Super Eagles team that won the 2013 AFCON, would be hopeful that this calculated risk would pay off.
