Kylian Mbappe revealed how Luis Enrique and Luis Campos saved him from never playing for PSG again.

Kylian Mbappe, who recently signed for Real Madrid, has revealed the reaction of the Paris Saint-Germain board after he informed them that he will not be renewing his contract beyond this season.

The 25-year-old will end his seven-year association with the club at the end of the month when his contract expires and will join Real Madrid as a free agent. When he informed the leadership of the Parisian club at the start of the season, he said that they reacted “violently.”

What happened

In the summer of 2022, Mbappe came close to joining Real Madrid after having reached a verbal agreement with the club. However, PSG managed to convince him to sign a contract renewal. Mbappe signed a two-year contract at the time, with the option of an additional year, triggerable unilaterally by the player.

At the start of the recently concluded campaign, Mbappe informed the PSG board that he would not trigger said extension. He also rejected a renewal proposal, insisting he was ready to call time at the club.

According to Mbappe, this information angered them, and they sternly told him he would no longer play for the club. However, Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos intervened. Although the France national team captain missed preseason, he was reintegrated back early enough to lead PSG to their record 11th Ligue 1 title, as well as the Coupe de France.

“They made me understand that I would no longer play with PSG, they said it to my face, they spoke to me violently; they told me it,” Mbappe said, per GFNS.“Luis Enrique and Luis Campos saved me. I wouldn’t have set foot on the pitch again without them. It’s the truth; that’s why I’ve always had this recognition in relation to the coach and the sports director.”

Kylian Mbappe is currently in the France national team camp ahead of the European championships. He is leading his country to his first Euros as a captain.
