Augustine Eguavoen, the coach of the Super Eagles, has criticised Libya for their time-wasting tactics during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Nigeria won their third game in their group 1-0 over Libya, extending their winning streak in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
A late goal from Fisayo Dele Bashiru sealed the narrow victory for Eguavoen’s side and moved seven points on the Group D table.
However, despite the win, Eguavoen was dissatisfied with the tactics used by the Libyan side during the game.

Eguavoen speaks on Libya’s tactics
Super Eagles head coach Eguavoen has expressed his dissatisfaction with Libya’s time-wasting antics.
Eguavoen said after the game, “I think the Libyans used delay tactics because we have out timekeepers in the name of Thomas and Boborise. They wasted 14 to 15 minutes out if the 45 minutes, which is not so good.
“They are a good side, you could see that they could move the ball if they wanted to move the ball. But trying to bring in such strategies is a good thing, they should just play normally.
“When we scored the late goal, they came out. Maybe they overrespected us thinking if they came out, we were going to score a lot of goals.”
In the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Libyans resorted to time-wasting techniques, with the goalkeeper wasting more than four minutes for treatment following a slight nudge from Victor Boniface.
It also took a long time for Murad Al Wuheesi to play his goal kicks and he received a yellow card one of those times.
The Super Eagles will travel to Benghazi for the second leg in three days, and they will be hoping to get another three point to seal their AFCON qualification
