The Portuguese tactician was shown a red card as the second half began.
An angry Jose Mourinho was sent off during AS Roma’s 2-1 Serie A defeat at the hands of Cremonese on Tuesday night.
The three-time Premier League winner was shown a red card – his third this season – when he clashed with the fourth official.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was given his marching orders by referee Marco Piccini just seconds into the second half.
In the stands, Mourinho joined his assistant, Salvatore Foti, who is serving a touchline ban for using insults when Roma and Cremonese clashed in the Coppa Italia.
The red card means Mourinho will not be on the touchline when Roma face Juventus in a crucial league game on Sunday.
Roma were 1-0 down when the Portuguese tactician was sent off after Frank Tsadjout had opened the score for relegation-threatened Cremonese.
The away side went on and leveled proceedings in the 71st minute when Leonardo Spinazzola found the back of the net.
However, Cremonese struck again – via Daniel Ciofani’s penalty in the 83rd minute – to record their first Serie A win in 27 years.
This is also Cremonese’s first league victory of the season and their first top-flight win since March 1996. It is also the second time this season that they have defeated Roma after their 2-1 win in Coppa Italia in early February.
Meanwhile, Roma squandered a chance to win and get into the Champions League spots and now remain a point outside the top four.
However, Roma remain in contention for this season’s Europa League and will come up against Real Sociedad in the Round of 16 in March.
