'He was the only one' — Ancelotti singles out star for praise after Barcelona defeat
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti slammed his team for their performance against Barcelona.
What Hansi Flick said
Barcelona triumphed over eternal rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Copa final, the first trophy of the Hansi Flick era. And like the games against Athletic Club in the semi-final, Fati did not make the matchday squad.
Following the game, Flick was questioned about the decision and he answered candidly, stating that Fati did not reach the required level to play.
“After his injuries, Ansu Fati hasn't been able to show his 100% and this is sad,” Flick told reporters, per Fabrizio.
“I was convinced he would be at his best. I am honest with my players. He needs to work like everyone else.”
Fati’s time at Barcelona as the bright star with a burgeoning career seems like a distant past now, as injuries have blighted the once meteoric trajectory.
Fati has suffered multiple recurring injuries and has not found rhythm or his best form since. The Spanish international is on significant wages and it is believed the club are hoping to sell him.
