Arsenal have reportedly lodged a formal appeal over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card in their 1-0 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The 18-year-old was sent off in first-half stoppage time for a challenge on Matt Doherty, who was leading a counter-attack following an Arsenal corner.
While the tackle initially appeared to warrant a yellow card for a cynical foul, referee Michael Oliver deemed it serious foul play and showed a straight red.
VAR official Darren England supported the decision after replays showed Lewis-Skelly’s studs making contact with Doherty’s leg.
However, the decision sparked widespread criticism, with manager Mikel Arteta describing himself as "absolutely fuming" post-match. Pundits, including Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, also slammed the call.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal have now formally appealed the dismissal, which has also led to alleged death threats against Oliver, now under police investigation.
The appeal will be reviewed by an independent three-man panel, including former players, who will assess whether Oliver’s decision was an "obvious error."
Arsenal are expected to cite Bruno Fernandes’ successful appeal earlier this season as part of their case.

What’s at stake for Lewis-Skelly?
If the appeal fails, Lewis-Skelly will face a three-match domestic suspension, ruling him out of key fixtures.
He would miss this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, the second leg of Arsenal’s EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United, and the league game against Leicester City on February 15.
However, the teenager remains available for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Girona, where Arteta has also been boosted by the return of three players in training.
Meanwhile, Oliver has been assigned to referee Ipswich Town’s clash with Southampton this weekend, while Peter Bankes will officiate Arsenal’s high-stakes match against Manchester City.
The outcome of Arsenal’s appeal could have significant implications for their season as they juggle multiple competitions.
