Toma emerges winner of Independent Cup in Lagos

A total of 32 teams participated in the four-week long football competition held in Ipaja area of Lagos State.

Toma FC of Agage have won the 2023 Independent Cup. In a fiercely competitive final played on Sunday.

Toma FC defeated Senna F.C. to win the trophy on penalties (5-4) after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Toma FC won the championship and took home the famous trophy as well as a cash award of 350 000 naira.

Senna FC, who finished second, received a check for 200,000 for their efforts. MS Success, who finished third, received a check for 100,000.

A total of 32 teams participated in the four-week long football competition held in Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The organizer, Sesan Ogunleye said he is satisfied with the outcome of the tournament, and promised the next edition will be bigger.

“I am very satisfied with the quality of play we witnessed from every team, football is at the grassroots, I would say we are satisfied and we got what we were looking.

“Football at the grassroots level is essential for nurturing talent and promoting the sport. That’s what we are trying to do with the competition”.

The Independent Cup has produced several top players, including Mjällby AIF of Sweden forward Silas Nwankwo.
