New research has revealed the most Instagrammable stadiums in the EPL with Manchester City missing out on top four.
The Premier League boasts some of the most popular stadiums in club football history.
Being one of the most-watched leagues in the sport, it’s not hard to see why these iconic grounds is widely known across the globe, with England boasting some of the most successful teams in club football history.
However, there’s always a question of which match ground stadium is the most popular with various club supporters and fans hardly shying away from the debate on social media.
In this article we will explore the top 10 most popular stadiums in the Premier League this season on popular social media platform Instagram as per a study from sportworldnews.org.
The study analysed Instagram data and stadium capacities of teams participating in the 2022/2023 English Premier League to find the top four stadiums with the highest “Football Favourite” score out of 10.
Liverpool leads Top 4 most Instagrammable stadiums in the Premier League
Anfield belonging to the Merseyside Reds - Liverpool F.C. in Liverpool, has been ranked as the most Instagrammable stadium with a total Football Favourite score of 10.
The stadium has 1.3 million photos for all accounts using the hashtag #anfield, the highest among the top 10, and the equivalent of 24 photos for each of the 53,394 fans who can fit inside the ground.
The club which is owned by American multinational conglomerate Fenway Sports Group Holdings(FSG) is widely regarded as the most succesful club in English football history having won the Premier League 19 times, the FA Cup 8 times, EFL cup 9 times, Community Shield 16 times , Champions League 6 times, Europa League 3 times, UEFA Super Cup 4 times, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Liverpool are followed closely by Manchester United’s iconic ground Old Trafford with a favourite stadium score of 6.9.
The largest seating capacity among the EPL stadiums, the home of 13-time Premier League winners has 1.2 million posts dedicated to it under the hashtag #oldtrafford.
Compared against its maximum capacity of 74,310, that works out at just over 17 photos per fan.
Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge comes in third place puts with a score of 5.2 out of 10.
There are almost 13 pictures per spectator for the Blues, which have 523,037 photos under the hashtag #stamfordbridge compared to the ground’s capacity of 40,343.
Rounding out the top four is the famous Newcastle United ground - St. James’ Park, with a 2.9 score.
The home of the Magpies welcomes 52,305 spectators every match and has accumulated 371,889 posts with the hashtag #stjamespark.
Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for sportworldnews.org said : “Liverpool and Manchester United’s rivalry is one of the biggest in football, and they have battled for supremacy on and off the pitch for decades, so it’s interesting to see how they fare when it comes to social media.
“Their two iconic stadiums are by far the most popular to tag on Instagram, but Liverpool edge this contest with more hashtags overall, and their supremacy is extended when factoring in the capacities of the two grounds.”
