With action in Europe's top leagues returning, there will be several Nigerian stars making their marks against some of the best teams in the land
This weekend, in the Premier League, Serie A, and Bundesliga, three of Europe's most prestigious leagues are going to be rocked by important performances by Nigerian superstars.
From Victor Boniface to Samuel Chukweze, there are several Super Eagles stars to keep an eye out for in Europe’s major league this weekend.
Victor Boniface — Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been on fire in the Bundesliga, scoring six goals in eight matches for Bayer Leverkusen.
After a mini-break in midweek in the DFB Pokal, Boniface is set to return to the Bayer Leverkusen starting lineup as the reigning champions take on Stuttgart to kick off the Bundesliga weekend.
The star forward will be keen to add to his impressive goal-tally against Stuttgart, who have conceded an average of two goals per game this campaign.
Maduka Okoye — Udinese vs Juventus
Udinese’s Superman, Maduka Okoye, will be keen to put the midweek disappointment of the 3-2 loss against Venezia behind him when Serie A returns this weekend.
Okoye and Udinese must get back on the horse as they take on the tough test of hosting Juventus this game week.
The Old Lady are yet to taste defeat this campaign in the Serie A, and it will be up to Okoye’s Udinese to finally break Juventus.
Moses Simon — Nantes vs Marseille
Nante’s Nigerian winger Moses Simon has already started the season in incredible form and has registered four assists in his last six matches for club and country.
Simon’s next potential victims come in the form of title chasers Marseille, who travel to Nantes’ Stade de la Beaujoire hoping to keep up pace with league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite Simon’s form, Nantes are currently on a run of six games without a win, and will be hoping for a small upset against Marseille to end their rut.
Samuel Chukwueze — Monza vs AC Milan
Samuel Chukwueze’s stock at AC Milan continues to rise after a series of impressive performances for the Rossoneri, including his first goal and assist for the season.
Chukwueze appears to be Rafael Leao’s biggest obstacle at the club, as the Nigerian forward seems to have cemented his place as a starter over the Portuguese.
The former Villarreal man will have another chance to impress for AC Milan this weekend as the Rossoneri travel to Monza, hoping to get back to winning ways after their loss to Napoli.
Ola Aina — Nottingham Forest vs West Ham
Full-back Ola Aina is certainly another Nigerian star to watch this weekend as his Nottingham Forest side compete against West Ham.
Aina earned plaudits for his performances in the last game week as the Super Eagles defender helped the Trickey Tees to a 3-1 victory over Leicester City and will be going for more praise as Nottingham Forest host the Hammers.
Nottingham Forest are in seventh on the Premier League table and are only seven points behind Manchester City at the top of the league, while trailing a place in the top four by only two points, so a win against West Ham, fresh from ending Erik Ten Hag’s reign at Manchester United, will be crucial.
