A former FA Cup-winning defender for Arsenal has weighed in on the Gunners’ pursuit of a centre-forward ahead of the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has commented on the Gunners’ interest in signing a centre-forward.

Gibbs, who won the FA Cup three times with the Gunners under Arsene Wenger in 2014, 2015 and 2017 was speaking on ESPN.

Mikel Arteta's team have had issues up top this season, exacerbated by Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz suffering season-ending injuries.

While the North London club were linked with a late move for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Alvaro Morata on loan before the Spaniard's eventual switch to Galatasaray, nothing materialised for the club in January.

Regardless, Arsenal’s interest in bringing one remains apparent, with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko linked with a transfer.

Another name was recently added to the mix, with Ipswich frontman Liam Delap said to be a person of interest, and Gibbs has stated that the former Manchester City forward adds unique qualities to Arteta’s side.

The retired defender was responding to suggestions that Manchester United could consider the 22-year-old to bolster their options in the summer.

”I disagree, I’ll take him at Arsenal,” said Gibbs, who chimed in after the forward was dismissed as a solution for the Red Devils. “The season he’s having, the profile he has, he adds to a team like Arsenal.

“He’s physical, he’s been dominant, he’s manhandled a lot of the centre-halves in the Premier League. He’s also got good feet for a big player.

“I think he’s a top, top talent.”

Delap has scored 12 Premier League goals in 30 appearances for the soon-to-be-relegated Tractor Boys, 12 points from safety with seven games remaining.

The Englishman contributing 38.7% of the relegation-threatened club’s 31 goals makes him an interesting option, though it remains to be seen if he replicates such numbers in North London if a deal happens.
