Tottenham are reportedly considering sacking caretaker manager Christian Stellini after he described their performance in the 6-1 loss to Newcastle as the worst he had ever seen
Tottenham’s interim manager Christian Stellini is reportedly the subject of a crisis meeting to determine his continuity at the club after their disastrous outing against Newcastle which he described as “the worst he has ever seen.”
Tottenham still stuttering after Conte’s exit
Stellni took over the reins of Tottenham from Antonio Conte, to whom he had served as an assistant.
Conte left Tottenham by a mutual agreement after an incredible rant where he disparaged the Spurs players’ attitudes as well the club’s management following a poor outing against Southampton during a poor spell in the Premier League.
Tottenham’s form has barely improved since Conte’s departure as an initial bounce with a win over Brighton in their first game after his exit has worn off, with Spurs losing their last two Premier fixtures against Bournemouth and Newcastle.
Spurs’ latest loss, a 6-1 reverse against Newcastle, was the club’s most embarrassing defeat in the Premier League in almost 10 years as they lost by the largest margin in the competition since a 5-0 humbling at the hands of Liverpool in December 2013.
Tottenham look to save season by axing Stellini
Tottenham were behind by five goals inside the first 21 minutes against Newcastle in a performance that Stellini would later term as “the worst I’ve ever seen,” while the 6-1 loss did significant damage to Spurs’ chances of being in the UEFA Champions league qualifying spots when the season ends, as they now sit fifth in the Premier League, behind fourth-place Manchrster United by six points despite the Red Devils having a game in hand.
Due to the ongoing disaster, Tottenham are considering letting caretaker manager, Stellini, go earlier than expected, despite not finding a permanent replacement yet in a bid to salvage their season and fight for a place in the top four.
The club have sounded out a number of managers since Conte’s departure but are yet to hold talks with any new names as the season draws to a close, and there is still a lot of uncertainty about who would take over at the club if they do decide to part ways with their current interim boss.
