Cameroon's World Cup star has been involved in a fatal car accident that took his life in an instant.

Landry Nguemo began his football career in Dschang, a town in western Cameroon before going for trial at Nancy in France. He also played for Nancy, Celtic, Bordeaux, and Saint-Etienne, amongst other clubs.

The midfielder had 42 appearances for Cameroon, scoring four goals before calling an end to his international career.

However, he lost his life in a tragic accident, having been involved in a car crash that also cost the life of his driver. 

Nguemo fatal accident

It's a sad day for Cameroonians after the news of the death of their football legend Landry Nguemo hit the media.

According to reports on X, he reported saying, “SAD NEWS! Former Cameroon midfielder Landry Nguemo (38) dies in a fatal car crash. A sand truck ran into his SUV, killing him and the driver instantly.”

It was reported that he was a victim of a fatal accident in his home country after a truck ran into his SUV car and killed him and his driver.

The Cameroon Football Federation have also released a statement regarding the accident and have sent their condolence to his family.

The statement says, "The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has just learned the tragic news of the passing of former Indomitable Lion Landry Nguemo in a traffic accident.

"Nguemo, who was a key player for the Cameroonian national team from 2006 to 2014 and a former member of Girondins de Bordeaux, will be remembered for his contributions to football.

"FECAFOOT extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community."
