The spotlight will shine firmly on the Spaniard who will be taking charge of his first competitive game since taking charge of the Kasasiro Boys 40 days ago.

KCCA FC head coach, Sergio Traguil, radiated optimism as he addressed the media ahead of the pivotal FUFA Super 8 quarterfinal showdown against Wakiso Giants FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

The spotlight will shine firmly on the Spaniard who will be taking charge of his first competitive game since taking charge of the Kasasiro Boys 40 days ago.

With the energy in the air palpable, Traguil didn’t shy away from expressing his optimism, stating; “We are ready, we have prepared very well. Every single session has been very intensive, which is a good sign from the players.”

“Wakiso Giants have historically been a challenging team, often proving difficult for KCCA, as evidenced by last season's results," noted Traguil.

And with a glint of steely determination, he added, "This is a new season, new reality, with a new team and new players. We have had a promising test against Kakamega already, but Wakiso presents another challenge."

KCCA’s aim this season will be to end their four year wait for silverware, and the returning Super 8 tournament which features the top eight teams from last season offers a decent chance to have a positive start to the season.

KCCA have already tested victory in the competition, winning its inaugural edition in 2018, defeating rivals Vipers SC, while Wakiso Giants provided opposition to them at the quarter finals, the last time the Super 8 was held in 2019.

"The FUFA Super 8 is crucial for us, but our primary objective remains the league and advancing in the Confederations Cup," he shared.

"Every competition KCCA FC enters, the aim is to conquer. We're gearing up for a fiery atmosphere at the stadium tomorrow and hope for an electrifying fan presence to augment the experience."

“The Super 8 is important to us, because it gives us another chance to have a good challenge, competition like atmosphere, and we hope that this stadium is full to the maximum tomorrow, because we want to have the full experience.”

“The game comes at a perfect moment, because we want to start having the high-level games to test our new players, the ideas we are trying to put across and how the players are adopting to the new game model.”

Part of their build up to the season included a 2-0 victory over Kenya’s Kakamega Homeboyz in a gleaming ceremony where they club also unveiled their squad.

Reminiscing about their game against Kakamega, Traguil was candid, "Though we had a commendable game, there's room for improvement. And what better team to test our mettle against than Wakiso?"

Last season saw the team finishing second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table, while also completing a remarkable double over Wakiso Giants – who finished eight – with scores of 3-2 at Lugogo and 1-0 in Wakiso.

Recent stats favor KCCA FC, boasting four wins out of the last six games against Wakiso Giants, and outscoring them with 13 goals to four.

In team news, KCCA FC's Brazilian midfield dynamo, Joao Gabriel, is on the fast track to recovery and is tipped to make a comeback in this pivotal game.

Meanwhile, The Purple Sharks have lost energetic winger Moses Aliro, defender Grant Masiko and forward Sharif Kimbowa already this window, but are likely to introduce their new recruit, Blancha Mulamba, to the mix.
