Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has opened up on the exit of Julian Alvarez and his potential replacement.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken out about the impending departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, revealing that the player sought a new challenge.

Alvarez, who is set to complete an £81m move to the Spanish club, will leave City with a significant profit after joining for just £14m two years ago.

"Julian told me he wants a new challenge, feels it's what he needs to do," Guardiola explained.

"Last season he played a lot, sometimes with Erling, but I understand there were moments he didn't play. I've always said that if you're not happy, why should you stay? Contracts can be broken."

Regarding a potential replacement for Alvarez, Guardiola remained tight-lipped, saying, "I don't know yet, we talk every day, we'll see what happens. It could happen, it could not happen. We'll see."

Guardiola's comments suggest that the club is open to finding a suitable replacement for Alvarez, but no decision has been made yet.

With the new season just around the corner, City fans will be eager to see how the team adapts to the departure of the prolific forward
