A recent report has shed light on why the 2022 World Cup winner wants to leave Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

Julian Alvarez’s Manchester City future has been thrown into more doubt after reports emerged on Thursday that he has grown tired of life in Manchester.

The 2022 World Cup-winning striker’s club for the forthcoming campaign had previously caused discussion, with reports suggesting Atletico Madrid are keen on the 24-year-old frontman

Alvarez made 54 appearances for Pep Guardiola's men in 2023-24, starting 31 times in the Premier League, twice in the Champions League, three times in the FA Cup, once in the EFL Cup and Club World Cup.

However, the frontman still wants out of the Etihad.

Why Alvarez wants to leave Manchester City

According to a report in The Athletic, via GiveMeSport, Alvarez is looking to leave Man City in search of regular first-team football despite playing over 2,600 minutes last season, as opportunities could be limited in the forthcoming campaign with Kevin De Bruyne healthy again after last season’s injury troubles and Erling Haaland expected to continue as the club’s top No. 9.

The Argentine striker and his family are also said to be seeking a warmer climate, thus leading to the 24-year-old’s intention to leave the consecutive four-time Premier League winners.

What comes next?

Rumours indicate that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the 2022 world champion, even if they would have to spend £60 million plus add-ons on the forward.

Alvarez is with the Argentina squad at the ongoing football event at the Olympic Games, where he played 90 minutes in the controversial group-stage opener against Morocco on Wednesday.
