Arsenal have reportedly suffered a setback in their bid to improve Mikel Arteta's team ahead of next season.

Arsenal's pursuit of Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori has hit a brick wall, with the player's potential move to the North London club now in jeopardy.

According to The Mirror, the transfer is on hold and under threat due to a disagreement between Bologna and Basel over the player's sell-on fee.

Despite Calafiori already agreeing to terms with Arsenal, Bologna are threatening to cancel the deal altogether.

Arsenal to lose Calafiori?

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta had identified Calafiori as the ideal candidate to bolster the defence ahead of next season, with the aim of ending their 20-year wait for a Premier League title, and stop Manchester City from winning it for a 5th successive season.

Arteta is eager to provide competition and depth to his backline, but this latest development has cast doubt over the transfer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Lille defender Leny Yoro.

The 18-year-old is set to arrive in Manchester in the coming days to undergo medical checks ahead of a move that could be worth up to 60 million pounds.

United have been proactive in the transfer window and Yoro will be the second arrival after Joshua Zirkzee joined from Bologna.
