Barcelona turn down world record bid for Yamal

The 16-year-old winger has since stolen the spotlight with his breathtaking performances, most notably his sensational strike against France in the semi-finals.

Yamal's impressive display has only reinforced Barcelona's determination to keep him at the club, and they have taken measures to ensure that a lucrative offer doesn't lure him away.

His contract includes a hefty €1 billion release clause, designed to deter potential suitors and prevent a repeat of the Neymar saga in 2017.

Back then, Barcelona underestimated Paris Saint-Germain's resolve and resources, and the French club shattered the world transfer record by meeting Neymar's €222 million release clause.

Meanwhile the Blaugrana are intensifying efforts to sign Yamal's Spain teammate Nico Williams as the club look to wrestle the league title from Real Madrid next season.
