CAF has strongly condemned unruly behaviour by a section of supporters during two CAF Champions League fixtures in Tunisia and Morocco on Saturday night

The CAF Champions League quarterfinal matches played in Tunisia and Morocco witnessed ugly scenes as fans clashed with each other and security leading to the death of one.

At the Rades Stadium in Tunis, fans clashed with security as Tunisian giants Esperance took on Algeria’s JS Kabylie in a fixture that ended 1-all with the hosts progressing to the semi-final.

The home fans clashed with security as they lit fireworks that forced firefighters to be called to action.

The violence heightened at halftime forcing the second half kickoff for about 40 minutes.

Fan dies

In Casablanca Morocco, a female fan died while outside the Mohammed V Stadium before the kickoff of the clash between Raja Casablanca and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The fan reportedly died in a stampede as thousands tried to access the venue for the clash.

Al Ahly held on to a goalless draw as they progressed 2-0 on aggregate.

Stern action

CAF has come out to condemn the two cases and instituted a disciplinary proceeding to investigate and pass a verdict.

“The scenes in Tunis and Casablanca were unacceptable and we cannot tolerate this in football,” CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba said.

“We condemn unruly actions by some supporters in the strongest terms. CAF will hand over the matter to our judicial structures for further investigation,” he warned.
