The Czech coach has defended Tom Juma’s brief spell in charge of Leopards and explained the different thing he has brought to the club.

AFC Leopards head coach Thomas Trucha believes Tom Juma did not get enough time to have his team firing before he was sacked following the side’s loss to Gor Mahia last October.

Trucha has been in charge of the club since the game against Bandari and had won just one of his opening eight games, before a win over Kakamega Homeboyz in December that paved the way for an impressive unbeaten run of five wins from the last six games.

Now, the side sit 10th in the league on 27 points, but Trucha has defended his predecessor, claiming he lacked enough time to get the side winning as they had signed 17 players in August.

“Tom Juma had very little time to prepare the team because they signed the players two weeks before the start of the league,” Trucha said.

Trucha has revealed the different things he has had to do to get the side to start winning regularly.

“He did not have enough time to know the players and put them together, so the task was, in the short time, to put the things on the right track, to trust the players and make them compete.

“Now we also wanted to bring some players, now we have brought in Kennedy (Owino) Arthur (Gitego) and (Chris) Koloti for competition. I believe time helped me, not that I bought something special.”

Trucha has revealed that the international break in November, as well as the training camp they held in Mumias in January, may have helped the players adapt to his methods quickly.

“Maybe you can ask the players, not me. I had time to work with them.

“We were with them in Mumias for training two weeks ago and also the FIFA break also gave us more time to work which gave the players time to understand how I want to play and now they deserve all the points they are getting.”

Leopards will be hoping they can continue their impressive steak when they play Murang’a Seal next weekend.
