If Nigeria's Super Eagles win the 2026 World Cup, the trophy will be handed to them by Donald Trump
As the new President of the United States, Donald Trump will have the honour of presenting the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning team at the 2026 tournament, with many hoping that he will be handing the prize to Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Trump to present World Cup trophy
Set to take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, the upcoming World Cup in 2026 will see the world’s top teams battle it out for the sport’s most coveted prize.
Defending champions Argentina were presented with the award by French president Emmanuel Macron, who had just watched the Albiceleste defeat his country, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Being the president of the host country, Trump will be afforded the same honour as the Emir of Qatar in 2022, and will likely present the 2026 World Cup trophy alongside representatives of the eventual finalists and the FIFA president.
Nigeria’s World Cup qualification struggles
For Nigerian fans, the prospect of the Super Eagles lifting the trophy is tantalising, though the team currently faces an uphill battle to secure qualification.
Sitting second from the bottom in their group, Nigeria’s prospects are dim, as they trail both South Africa and Rwanda by four points.
Both of these teams are currently in the top two positions with seven points each, leaving the Super Eagles with work to do if they hope to secure a place in the 2026 tournament.
Despite their struggles, the Nigerian squad is filled with talent, and fans are holding out hope for a turnaround in form. With a few wins, the Super Eagles could potentially climb the rankings and keep their World Cup dreams alive.
