Shilwatso becomes the second Kenyan to have signed for Besiktas after Esse Akida.

Harambee Starlets forward Cynthia Shilwatso has officially joined Turkish Women’s First League side Beşiktaş United Payment Kadın Football Club. The 24-year-old, who had been training with Mathare United Women during her recovery from an injury, is now ready to embark on a new chapter in her football career.

Shilwatso’s move to Besiktas follows her departure from Ukrainian club Kryvbas Women, where she featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Ukrainian top flight. During her tenure, she made 16 appearances and scored seven goals before her time was cut short by injury.

While recovering, the former Vihiga Queens striker trained with Mathare United Women to maintain fitness, signaling her determination to return stronger. Now fully recovered, Shilwatso is eager to make an impact in Turkey.

By joining Besiktas, Shilwatso becomes the second Kenyan player to represent the club, following in the footsteps of Esse Akida. Akida played for Besiktas in 2019, making two appearances before the season was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shilwatso’s signing also highlights her diverse international experience, which includes stints in Spain with DUX Logroño and in Tanzania with Fountain Gate Princess. Her versatility and goal-scoring prowess make her a valuable addition to Besiktas.

Shilwatso is set to make her league debut this Sunday when Besiktas, coached by Mesut Kır, face arch-rivals Fenerbahçe in an away fixture. Expectations are high as fans anticipate her contribution to the team’s campaign in the Turkish Women’s First League.

Shilwatso’s move reflects the growing prominence of Kenyan players in international women’s football. Her achievements join the legacy of other Kenyan stars making their mark abroad, further showcasing the country’s burgeoning talent pool.

With her resilience and experience, Shilwatso is poised to leave a lasting impression in Turkey, continuing her inspiring journey in global football.
