The 33-year-old was a member of the squad which won the 2016 double with the club.

Tusker FC captain Humphrey Mieno believes that the Brewers can repeat their 2016 heroics of winning both the league and cup double this season.

Mieno was part of the side that won both the league and cup double in 2016 describing it as the most memorable highlight of his career

Speaking to the club’s media, the veteran midfielder said it is a huge responsibility to be captain of Tusker but it is a challenge he has been relishing and hopes to cap it off with continental qualification in order to “showcase the team’s potential.”

“I want to try and guide the team to another title. We are the current league holders and we want to retain it. That is my main aim and the team’s target this season,” he said.

"I have won a lot of individual and team accolades in my career and the one that stands out was when we won the double (of league and cup) in 2016 and I think we can do it again this year.”

The former Gor Mahia midfield general has also relished the captaincy responsibility, having taken over from Eugine Asike who left for Sweden in 2022 and discussed the responsibilities of being Robert Matano’s manager on the pitch.

“As captain of the team, I have a massive responsibility to push the team to work in the way the coach wants and also to try and motivate the team to get better results.

"You also need to be talking to the young lads who have never been in certain positions before. Sometimes it is really massive to have that responsibility on your shoulders but I think I am up to the task and so far it has been good on my end.”

Mieno received praise from former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward, Emmanuel Adebayor back in February, who was at the Ruaraka Grounds to watch Tusker play against Kariobangi Sharks and compared him to Yaya Toure.

“Adebayor is one of the best strikers from Africa of his generation. He had some words of encouragement for me and I do not take it for granted because to have such a guy utter such words is really encouraging and positive to take ”

Tusker will face Kariobangi Sharks this weekend before facing Gor Mahia the week afterwards.
