The goalkeeper feels he is firmly in the race for the FKF Premier League gong after a great run of form with the Brewers.

Tusker FC goalkeeper Brian Opondo is targeting the Golden Glove award in the FKF Premier League following a great run of form with the Brewers.

Opondo has managed seven clean sheets in 15 league games and with eight games remaining, he feels he can add six more and walk away with the title.

The goalkeeper has had to bid his time after being third choice behind Patrick Matasi and Brian Bwire when he joined from Bidco United two years ago and is making the most of his opportunities.

“My dream is to fight for the golden glove this season. Even before we started, I challenged myself that I wanted to be the number one keeper,” Opondo, who has dislodged Joseph Ochuka to become first-choice, told Telecomasia.net.

“For two seasons, I was patiently waiting and I knew if I got the chance, I would make use of it. I didn’t start the season in quite the best way because of injury after pre-season but I kept working and I am delighted that I am now playing consistently.

“I sleep and dream about it every day. I want to give my best because I know I can get at least six in the remaining matches. It would be such a huge achievement for me.

“We speak about it with my defense every time that we want to be champions and on top of it, have the best defense line so that is a motivation to me every single game.”

Opondo, who is two clean sheets short of the leading contender, has raked up six of the seven clean sheets from Tusker’s last nine games as Charles Okere’s team fight for the title.

The Brewers are on 48 points, one behind leaders Kenya Police, with eight games remaining and will hope to stay consistent to keep up pace, given Gor Mahia, who have a game in hand, are three points behind the law enforcers.
