Abraham Tusubira's clever work on the ball saw him set up both Darius Ojok's goals, and he later found the back of the net himself with just 10 minutes on the clock.
Maroons FC secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Wakiso Giants to get their StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) season off to a brilliant start at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.
The hero of the day was undoubtedly Abraham Tusubira, whose dominant performance saw him the named man of the match title.
Tusubira played a pivotal role, contributing to all three goals for Maroons FC.
His clever work on the ball saw him set up both Darius Ojok's goals, and he later found the back of the net himself with just 10 minutes on the clock.
The match marked a significant setback for Wakiso Giants, who suffered their third consecutive loss in the opening game of the season.
The Purple Sharks have suffered defeats to KCCA FC on two occasions, and now, Maroons FC has added to their woes.
The Prisons side wasted no time in making their intentions clear, through last season’s Young Player of the Season, Ojok, giving the visitors an early lead just one minute into the game, set up by Tusubira.
Wakiso Giants had their moments to level the playing field, with George Kaddu attempting to score from a free-kick, only to be denied by Maroons' goalkeeper, Hannington Ssebwalunyo.
The home side also came agonizingly close to finding the net when Patrick Bayiga nearly scored an own goal off Marvin Nyanzi's initial effort, but were denied by the woodwork.
Ojok then had another opportunity to extend Maroons' advantage, but his effort was thwarted by Wakiso Giants' goalkeeper, Lukuya.
At the 34th minute mark, Ojok struck again, doubling Maroons' lead with a close-range finish, with Tusubira's grabbing his second assist of the day.
With just 11 minutes remaining on the clock, Tusubira sealed the victory for Maroons FC.
Taking advantage of the keeper's position off the line, Tusubira calmly slotted the ball into the net, completing a well-deserved win for his team.
In their upcoming fixtures, Wakiso Giants will visit Soltilo Bright Stars on Saturday, September 23rd, while Maroons FC is set to host a wounded SC Villa on Sunday, September 24th.
