Chelsea’s injury troubles continue just as they welcome back Nicholas Jackson and Noni Madueke.

The Blues have now lost another key player, with defender Wesley Fofana ruled out due to a fresh injury.

Fofana was not included in the squad for Thursday’s Premier League match against Tottenham, and reports suggest his injury is undisclosed. The extent of the issue remains unclear, but he will undergo assessments in the coming days to determine how long he will be out.

The French centre-back only returned last month after missing 12 weeks with a hamstring injury. Since his big-money move from Leicester City, Fofana has struggled with fitness issues.

He missed the entire 2023-24 season and has managed just one league appearance in the first 13 games of this campaign.

With Fofana out, manager Enzo Maresca will have to choose between Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo to partner Levi Colwill in defence.

Chelsea went into their match against Tottenham in sixth place, following midweek wins for Manchester City and Newcastle United.

A loss would keep them outside the top four after 20 games, while a draw would leave them level on points with Newcastle but one behind fourth-placed City.

The Blues have struggled for consistency, losing three of their last five league matches, including a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. They will be desperate for a win to stay in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
